Ajaygarh Fort is an ancient fort located in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It stands on a hilltop in the Vindhya Hills at an elevation of 688 meters, providing stunning views of the Ken River below.
The fort was originally built by the Chandela dynasty in their declining years and served as their capital. It is noted for its rich history and impressive architecture, which showcases the skill of the Chandela builders.
Ajaygarh Fort originally had five gates, but only two remain today. Inside the fort are two temples and two rock-cut tanks named Ganga and Yamuna.
There are also the ruins of a Chandela temple dedicated to Raja Parmardi deva and three ruined Jain temples built in the Khajuraho style.
To reach the fort, visitors must climb approx-500 steep steps. The fort walls are constructed from large, dressed stones without visible mortar. Ajaygarh Fort is a popular attraction for history and art lovers visiting the region.
Exploring the entire Ajaygarh Fort takes approximately three to four hours, depending on the pace and physical condition of the visitors.
